plans for shoot

for this shoot i am going to revisit the solitude of ravens. this is because i found it to be a very interesting project to look at and is something i would like to take further. for this shoot i want to go to a church in the Essex countryside and explore the landscape around it. i am looking to capture a series of photos of things that may be interesting and reflect the Gothic theme i would like to pursue.

the equipment i am going to use for this shoot includes a tripod, my nikon D7100 and a zoom lens. i am going to shoot the church and the scenery around it, including the wildlife such as the birds and sheep surrounding the church.

research influence

for this shoot my influence is going to be Fukase Masahisa, however for the editing, i would like to use the style of Ansell Adams. he produces highly contrasted black and white images which show a large amount of detail.

for this shoot i would like it to be a continuation of shoot 5. i really enjoyed looking at different sunsets and the way the formation of the clouds seems to make a huge difference to the light reflections and depth of colour. i cannot predict what the outcome of this shoot will be as the weather conditions can change and become unpredictable. however, when editing these photos i can change the exposure and the depth of colour in them to suit the response i would like to produce.

when taking these photos, i will be leaving the house at around 7-7:30 to make sure i have enough time to find a suitable location to photograph the sunset.

for this shoot i am going to use a nikon d7100 and a tripod. as the light levels will drop during the sunset i am going to have to adjust my aperture and shutter speed accordingly.

i chose these images because of the way they show different stages of a sunset and the way the colour of light changes and becomes darker the lower the sun sets.

photos that require improvement

i chose these photos because they don't clearly show the sun and the colour it has changed to. the photo above is zoomed out and the sun isnt the focal point of the photo like the others. if i were to retake it, i would use my lense to zoom in closer and frame it so that the sun is dead centre.

the photo below shows the sun more closely but there is a tree completely obscuring the view of it. if i were to retake this, i would stand closer to the left where the sun is more clearly in view.

producing the response

when editing these photos, i firstly used the blending tool to get rid of the dust particles that had shown up in the photos. then i adjusted either the curves or brightness and contrast to bring out the colours although, on one or two of the edits i decreased the vibrancy to make the photo more realistic.

for this shoot, i am going to focus on capturing sunsets. these are one of the most beautiful and interesting aspects of the sky and can change the mood of a photo. this is a shoot i would like to carry on for a number of weekends. every sunset is different which is one of the things i would like to show during this project.

when editing these photos, i would like to experiment with colour and black and white to see which works best. some challenges i might face are the weather conditions and finding a suitable place where there is a wide view of the sky to take my photos. to have the best chance of capturing a sunset, i am going to leave the house at around 4-5 pm so that i have enough time to find a place to photograph the sky.

for this shoot i am going to use my Nikon D7100 and zoom lens. i am unlikely to use a tripod as i am going to be moving around and finding different locations to take my photos.
